PARENT A HORSE
~ Co-parent a horse without daily responsibilities ~
What is a Therapy Horse?
A Therapy Horse is the most important asset to any Therapeutic Riding program. Not just “any horse” can be a Therapy Horse. A Therapy Horse must be safe, sound, patient and willing. Our horses bare more than just the weight of the rider on their back- they also carry the struggles, the joy, the fear and the triumph of their riders as they overcome hurdles in the arena and in their every day life. Horses have a unique way of connecting with people and are extremely sensitive to emotions and body language which make them the perfect teacher for any individual.
Why does a Therapy Horse need to be sponsored?
Domesticated horses require daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance all year round. Each of our horses eat between 4-8 flakes of hay per day depending on the size of the horse, and we go through approximately 6 bales of hay per day which cost $11/bale. Domesticated horses need farrier work every 6-8 weeks, and some require horseshoes. Many of our horses also require special maintenance like grain, medication, and chiro, and 2 times a year our horses get vaccinated and dewormed. On average, one horse will cost KTRA $4000/year to keep and maintain (this number does not include unexpected veterinary care).
Sponsoring a Therapy Horse:
Hay- The average horse eats one bale of hay every 2 days at $11/bale = $2,000/year
Grain- $150
Farrier- Graciously donated by our Farriers (approx. Value $315- $1,134 per year)
Medication- $250
De-wormer- $50
Chiro- $1200
Vet Care (Vaccinations and Dental)- $350
Full Year Horse Sponsorship: $4,000
6 Month Horse Sponsorship: $2,000
Monthly Sponsorship: $300/month (6-12 month commitment)
Therapeutic riding lesson fees cover a small fraction of these costs and participating in the Parent A Horse program is a great way to make a meaningful contribution. You will receive an abundance of recognition for your generosity such as a Certificate of Sponsorship, photo of the sponsored horse, tax receipt, your name on the sponsored horse’s stall, KTRA newsletter, KTRA website and other social media. Also, included in your sponsorship is the opportunity to get to know your horse with a stable management session. Bring your friends and family for a tour of the facility and watch your horse hero in action!
IF YOU SEE A HORSE BELOW THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SPONSOR - PLEASE CONTACT ASHLEY AT asudds@ktra.ca
THANK YOU
