BCTRA Bursaries
The BCTRA Bursary Funding program is designed for Individual Members wishing to participate in BCTRA Group Member programs or to take training through accredited service providers. BCTRA Bursaries are intended for Individuals Members wanting to explore different aspects of therapeutic riding, hippotherapy, para-equestrian or equine facilitated wellness either through programs, courses, clinics, events, or competition.
Eligible Applicants
Bursaries are available to any BCTRA Individual Member who has been in good standing for a minimum of 12 months. Applicants must demonstrate an active interest in either therapeutic riding, hippotherapy, para-equestrian or equine facilitated wellness and be prepared to provide references stating their activities. Eligible activities MAY include:
Bursary Amounts
Bursaries will be awarded based on the number of applicants per year and representation across the province. Priorities will be given to those who do not qualify for funding (government, Horse Council of BC), parent or community groups or can show a strong financial need. Bursaries will be awarded up to $1,000 for any one person.

Approval Process
The BCTRA Board will receive and review all applications at monthly board meetings (second Monday of each month). Funding must be applied for before attending event or participation in any program. Applicants will be notified on receipt of application. Individual members are eligible to apply only once a year.
When to Apply
The BCTRA Bursary Funding application period will be open all year for review, or until funding is exhausted. Applicants will be notified upon receipt of application. Deadline for applications is the first Monday of each month. **Please note that there are NO Board meetings in August and December.

Canadian Tire Jumpstart - Funding Guidelines

The Canadian Tire Jumpstart program works with community organizations to form local Chapters that identify and approve the children who receive support. If you would like to apply for your child to receive support, Canadian Tire Jumpstart accepts applications from eligible families twice per year: 1) the last 2 weeks in January; and 2) the first 2 weeks in June.
The Sunshine Foundation
The Sunshine Foundation is the only Canadian charity to provide individual dreams to children with severe physical disabilities (such as Spina Bifida or cerebral palsy) as well as life-threatening illnesses. In fact, 80% of Sunshine Kids are challenged by a severe physical disability.
Variety, the Children's Charity - Individual Grants
Variety provides financial assistance for children who have special needs, with the costs of a wide range of equipment, therapies, educational, social and recreational programs. Variety is unable to consider any further requests for dental treatment, speech and language or other therapies for the balance of this grant year. Please inquire after August 1st, 2010, to request an application for consideration in our next grant year, commencing October 1st

Children 18 years and under are eligible to apply for a Grant. Applications are reviewed at our monthly board meetings so typically you will hear in less than 35 days. Their website does say, "The grant per child per year is a maximum of $500 and will cover registration fees and in some cases equipment. The grant cannot be used for camps, lessons, travel costs or fundraising." BUT they have approved that their grant can be used for therapeutic riding lessons at KTRA.
