If a parent cannot afford therapeutic riding lessons, they may be able to get financial assistance. Below are some possibilities.
Canadian Tire Jumpstart - Funding Guidelines The Canadian Tire Jumpstart program works with community organizations to form local Chapters that identify and approve the children who receive support. If you would like to apply for your child to receive support, Canadian Tire Jumpstart accepts applications from eligible families twice per year: 1) the last 2 weeks in January; and 2) the first 2 weeks in June.
President's Choice Children's Charity The President's Choice Children's Charity helps families with a child with a physical or developmental disability who is 18 years of age or under. Grants can help with mobility equipment, an environmental modification or therapy.
The Sunshine Foundation The Sunshine Foundation is the only Canadian charity to provide individual dreams to children with severe physical disabilities (such as Spina Bifida or cerebral palsy) as well as life-threatening illnesses. In fact, 80% of Sunshine Kids are challenged by a severe physical disability.
Variety, the Children's Charity - Individual Grants Variety provides financial assistance for children who have special needs, with the costs of a wide range of equipment, therapies, educational, social and recreational programs. Variety is unable to consider any further requests for dental treatment, speech and language or other therapies for the balance of this grant year. Please inquire after August 1st, 2010, to request an application for consideration in our next grant year, commencing October 1st
www.kidsportcanada.ca/british-columbia/kamloops/ Children 18 years and under are eligible to apply for a Grant. Applications are reviewed at our monthly board meetings so typically you will hear in less than 35 days. Their website does say, "The grant per child per year is a maximum of $500 and will cover registration fees and in some cases equipment. The grant cannot be used for camps, lessons, travel costs or fundraising." BUT they have approved that their grant can be used for therapeutic riding lessons at KTRA.
Please let us know if you are unable to find funding, sometimes we receive rider sponsorship donations and KTRA is able to sponsor a rider for a session. We do have an application to fill out if we have funding available. Thank you
